How Much Time Do You Spend on Social Media Daily? 🤔
Have you ever taken a second to ponder on how much time you spend scrolling through Instagram, Facebook or Twitter every day? Or on any other social media platform? Here are some interesting stats we found:
16-24-year-olds spend a median of 3 hours daily on social media
Internet users spent an average of 2 hours and 22 minutes per day on social networking in 2019
The average daily time spent on social in 2018 was 142 minutes a day
By 2021, more than 3 billion people are expected to be on social media
Projections for social media use estimates the average adult will spend 6 years and 8 months of their life on social media
Facebook has 1.4 billion active users on a daily basis
Why do these social media stats matter?
Well let’s take a second to think. Social media is a huge part of our lives and that doesn’t seem be changing anytime soon. Every day the number of social media users increases. For example, in 2017, less than 2.5 billion people were on social media worldwide. Today in 2020, around 3.8 million people use it. That’s more than half of the world’s population! 😳🌎 As we consider the role social media plays in our lives and into our future, we have to decide whether we want to continue to allow this technology to take so much of our time.
What’s a healthy amount? And how can I limit my screen time?
Experts have recommended 30 minutes or less per day as the maximum time you should spend on social media. They also recommend to take a step back to analyze how you spend your time on social. Now, if you use the majority of your time on social to connect with others, read news articles, those are both healthy and productive activities. There are multiple ways to limit your screen time. The iPhone automatically has a ‘‘Screen Time’’ feature on settings. See below for instructions and a photo:
Go to ‘‘Settings’’ > ‘‘Screen Time’’
Tap ‘‘App Limits’’
Tap ‘‘Add Limit’’
You can either choose time limits for entire categories of apps or add time limits manually for each app
Now you can set a daily limit by selecting hours and minutes
Monitoring your screen time is a great way to bring self awareness on the amount of time you spend on your phone. Social media is a huge part of our lives and everyday routines, especially during this pandemic. Though it is also important to be present and live in the moment, social media is also a place for inspiration and learning. Get social with us and take part in our social media poll!
